Voice input and read aloud

Dictate questions instead of typing them and have answers read aloud.

Dictating a question

Start recording

Click the microphone (Start recording) at the bottom right of the input field, next to the send arrow. The first time, your browser asks whether LOKI may use the microphone. Allow access.

Speak

While recording, the button pulses, and the input field shows “Recording…” with a level meter. Speak your question normally.

Stop recording

Click the button again (Stop recording). LOKI briefly shows “Transcribing…”.

Check the text and send

The recognised text appears in the input field. Text you have already typed stays, and the dictated text is added to it. LOKI does not send the question automatically: check and correct the text, then send it as usual.

Speech recognition runs on the LOKI appliance in your organisation. Your recording does not go to an external service and is deleted once it has been converted into text. LOKI automatically recognises the language you speak in.

While LOKI is writing an answer, the microphone is hidden.

Voice input messages

Messages appear in red text to the left of the microphone. Use the × to hide them.

MessageWhat you can do
“Microphone access denied. Please allow access in your browser settings.”Allow microphone access for LOKI's address. This is usually done via the padlock or camera icon in the address bar.
“Could not access the microphone.”Check that a microphone is connected and is not in use by another program, such as a video conference.
“Audio recording is not supported by this browser.”Use an up-to-date browser such as Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari.
“No recording detected.”The recording was empty. Try again and speak a little longer.
“No speech detected.”Speak louder or closer to the microphone.
“Transcription failed. Please try again.”Try again. If the error persists, contact your IT department.

Having answers read aloud

Below every finished answer you will find a speaker icon (Read aloud). Click it and your device reads the answer aloud. While reading aloud, the button shows a square; clicking it (Stop) ends the reading.

To read aloud, LOKI uses only the voices installed on your computer or smartphone. The text does not leave your device for this.

No speaker icon?

The icon only appears if a voice for the interface language is installed on your device. You install language packs in your operating system's settings, on Windows for example under Time & language.
