Data sources and tools
Decide where LOKI may look for an answer and which tools it may use.
To answer you, LOKI can search your documents, research on the internet, read your emails, query databases or do calculations. Which of these are available to you is set by your administrator through your groups (see Concepts). Within that scope, you decide for yourself what LOKI may use.
There are two places for this:
| Data sources | Tools | |
|---|---|---|
| Where | In the input field, the icon with the stacked layers | In the user menu at the bottom of the sidebar |
| Applies to | the current chat | all chats |
| What for | using only certain sources for a particular question | switching a tool off altogether |
Both can only restrict. A tool that has not been enabled for you cannot be switched on anywhere.
Choose data sources for a chat
Open the dialog
In the input field, click the icon with the stacked layers next to the paperclip (Open data sources).
Switch sources on or off
The Data sources dialog shows all sources that are enabled for you. At first, all of them are switched on. Switch off whatever LOKI should not use for this chat.
Close the dialog
Your selection applies immediately. If a source is switched off, the input field shows the sources that are still active as small cards. Use the × on a card to remove a source.
Possible sources:
| Source | What LOKI does with it |
|---|---|
| Documents | Searches the documents shared with you and answers with sources. |
| SharePoint | Searches the documents synced from SharePoint. |
| Outlook | Searches your emails and reads the relevant ones. |
| Web search | Searches the internet and answers with sources. |
Reset selection switches all sources back on. If you switch all sources off, LOKI answers only from the conversation and its general knowledge.
LOKI remembers your selection for each chat in your browser. On another device, you will see the default selection again.
Query a database
If your administrator has given you access to a database, the dialog also shows the Databases section. If you switch a database on, LOKI focuses entirely on it: the other sources are switched off for this chat, and LOKI answers your questions from the database. It can also do calculations and create charts for this.
Ask in everyday language, for example “Which ten customers had the highest revenue last quarter?”. LOKI turns this into a database query itself. In the working steps above the answer, you can see the query and its result. LOKI only reads from the database; it does not change anything.
Switch tools off for all chats
- Click your name at the bottom of the sidebar.
- Select Tools.
- Switch tools off or back on.
Every change is saved immediately and applies to all chats on all devices. There is no save button.
| Tool | Description |
|---|---|
| Document search | Searches the documents shared with you. |
| SharePoint search | Searches SharePoint files you have access to. |
| Outlook e-mail | Reads and searches your Outlook mailbox. |
| Web search | Searches the internet and fetches web pages. |
| Run Python | Calculates and draws charts with Python. |
| Long-term memory | Remembers facts and preferences across chats (see Memories). |
If you see “No tools are currently enabled for you.”, your administrator has not yet assigned any tools to your groups.
SharePoint and Outlook
SharePoint and Outlook are only available if you sign in with Microsoft (see Signing in). LOKI only accesses your own mailbox and does not change anything in it.
What LOKI is doing right now
While LOKI is answering, the line above the answer shows which tool is currently running, for example “Search Documents”, “Web Search” or “Run SQL Query”. Click it after the answer to see each step with its parameters and its result.
