Asking questions
Send questions to LOKI, stop answers, edit questions and reuse answers.
Starting a new chat
Click New Chat at the top of the sidebar. Alternatively, write your question directly on the start page; LOKI then creates a new chat automatically.
A new chat is initially called “Chat” with a number. A few seconds after your first question, LOKI gives it a fitting name. You can change the name at any time (see Managing chats).
One topic per chat
LOKI takes the chat's history so far into account for every answer. Start a new chat for a new topic. That keeps the answers more accurate, and you will find your chats more easily later.
Sending a question
- Write your question in the Enter your question... field.
- Press Enter or click the round arrow.
For a new line without sending, press Shift + Enter.
While LOKI is answering, the input field is locked and shows “Loading response…”.
Asking good questions
LOKI understands plain language. You don't need search terms or commands. A few tips:
- Be specific. “How many days of holiday do part-time staff get under the works agreement?” gets you there faster than “holiday”.
- Give context. Mention the project, department, time period or type of document if they matter.
- Follow up. You can refer to the previous answer, for example “Summarise that in three points” or “And what applies to apprentices?”.
- Choose your language freely. LOKI answers in German unless you ask in a different language. Then LOKI answers in that language.
While LOKI is answering
A line with a brain icon appears above the answer. It says “Thinking...” or the name of the tool LOKI is currently using, for example “Search Documents”. Afterwards it says, for example, “Thought for 12 seconds”.
Click this line to see the individual steps: which searches LOKI ran and what results they produced. This is helpful if you want to understand how an answer came about. The steps are left out when copying and when exporting to PDF.
Stopping an answer
While LOKI is answering, the send button turns into a pulsing square. Click it to cancel the answer. The text written up to that point remains.
Confirming LOKI's questions
For some actions, LOKI asks first, for example “Confirm this action?”. Click Yes or No. Afterwards it shows “Approved” or “Denied”.
Editing a question
If you made a typo or want to ask a question differently:
- Click your question or the pencil icon (Edit) next to it.
- Change the text.
- Click Send.
Later messages are deleted
When you send an edited question, LOKI deletes this question and everything that came after it in the chat, and answers the new version. Files attached to the original question are not sent again.
There is no “Regenerate answer” button. If you are not happy with an answer, edit your question or ask a follow-up question.
Reusing answers
Copy
Below every finished answer you will find the copy icon (Copy). After you click it, it briefly shows a green tick. LOKI copies the answer with formatting and the list of sources. When you paste into Word or an email, headings, lists and tables are kept.
Your own questions also have a copy icon when you move the mouse over them.
Read aloud
With the speaker icon (Read aloud), your device reads the answer aloud. More on this in Voice input and read aloud.
Save as PDF
You can save individual questions and answers as a PDF file (see Exporting a chat).
What answers can contain
- Source references such as [1]: click them to see the passage in the original (see Checking sources).
- Tables, lists, formulas and charts: LOKI displays them formatted.
- Figures from documents: if LOKI finds a suitable figure in a document, it can show it directly in the answer. Click an image to enlarge it.
- Calculated charts: if LOKI may use Python, it can do calculations and create charts. They appear as an image in the answer. Click them to enlarge them.
- HTML preview: if LOKI creates a small web page, for example a formatted overview, you see a card instead of the code. Click Open preview to view it on the right in the side panel. The preview is static: it doesn't run any programs and doesn't load any content from the internet. Use Close preview to hide it.
- Links: links in answers open in a new tab.
If the chat is locked
If, instead of the input field, you see “No access” and “You don't have access to any documents or tools yet”, no documents or tools have been shared with your account yet. The New Chat button is then locked. Contact your administrator; they need to add you to a group with access rights (see Concepts).
