The chat at a glance

How the LOKI chat is laid out and where to find each function.

In the chat you ask LOKI questions in plain language. LOKI looks for the answer in the documents and sources shared with you and shows, for every statement, where it comes from.

You open the chat in your browser at the address your IT department has given you. No installation on your computer is needed.

The screen

The chat consists of four areas:

AreaWhereWhat you do there
SidebarleftStart a new chat, search and open earlier chats, user menu
Top bartop rightExport a chat, give feedback, switch between light and dark theme
Chat areacentreAsk questions and read answers
Side panelright, only when neededView a cited document or an HTML preview

Below the input field there is always the note “Loki can make mistakes. Verify important information.” Take it seriously: check important statements against the source given (see Checking sources).

The start page

As long as no chat is open, you see the start page with the greeting “Hello! How can I help you?”, an input field and three info cards. As soon as you send a question there, LOKI creates a new chat.

The user menu

Click your name at the bottom of the sidebar. The menu contains:

  • Memories: what LOKI has remembered about you (see Memories)
  • Tools: which tools LOKI may use for you (see Data sources and tools)
  • Administration: opens the dashboard in a new tab. Only visible to managers and administrators.
  • Log out

Light and dark theme

Use the sun or moon icon at the top right to switch between light and dark theme. On your first visit, LOKI adopts your operating system's setting. Your browser remembers your choice.

On smartphone and tablet

The chat also works on small screens:

  • The sidebar is collapsed into a narrow icon bar. Tap the icon at the top to open it; tap beside it to close it again.
  • Cited documents and HTML previews open full screen.
  • On a computer, a chat's menu (⋮) only appears when you move the mouse over the chat. This makes it harder to find on touch devices.
